Database Structure

The links to the left will send you to pages that will give you a structural overview and examples of the following tables in the database: People (View, Modify, and List), Students, Units, Programs, Events, Activities, Presenters, Participants, Customized Materials, and Utilities.

The power of any database lies in the underlying structure. To accomplish the desired purposes and goals of the database, the underlying tables, fields, and relationships must be carefully designed. What is also included in the links are screenshots of pdf files that give a simplified view of the main tables, fields, and relationships in the BYU Faculty Center database. These pdf files are probably the most useful elements of this entire web site. Studying these features may be helpful in designing or improving your own database system.

What you are unable to experience with these screenshots are all the interactive buttons & scripts. For example, clicking on any of the small yellow boxes seen in the pictures performs a function or takes the user to a new screen with more information related to the text to the left of that box.
